Grade Six News

Last week on Thursday, we had our Halloween parade, and there were some pretty cool costumes!

We are working on things to put in our Remembrance day assembly, and we are starting up our Veterans Food Bank. The assembly is on November 9th. We are making little presentations for the assembly.

We had our Telus Spark Field trip on Tuesday, and it was awesome! We went into the new Dome Theatre to learn about Sky Science.

In Science we are creating a forest Tri-fold of our forest, and there are four different forest types. We are nearing the end of our Trees and Forests unit of science.

In Social we are doing some mini tests for Ancient Greece. We are also nearing the end of this unit.

We have been given some math pages, and this time we only were given three! Woo! ;-)

Grade six so far has been pretty eventful, and we all think it's gonna be a great year for ALL of us! :-)

We tried to write the blog on Thursday but the camera wouldn't connect!And it still won't connect! :-(

This week we worked on our Science title pages and we also worked on our Ancient Greece title pages!

  We worked on math on the NEO's and in the Math books. This week we did pages 33 to 44 and we also worked on Math Questions in our math notebook.

This week Nicole was the fish feeder and she almost forgot to feed the fish this morning. :(

This week some students presented their Novel Studies from September 

and now have to rush for this weeks Novel Studies for this month

We have been doing group reading some of the groups are read ing very big books with hundreds of pages and we have started to do our group reading from the beginning of the year. Some groups have finished their books.

We can't wait for the Election. We really want to find out who is going to win.

We went  to the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. We were learning to do journaling because we were going to do it on the field trip.

     

 We had pajama day on  Thursday because we brought so many socks for Socktober.
We went to Inglewood Bird Sanctuary and there were so  many animals there.

We also got to look at  muskrat skulls they were so small and beaver skulls too.

 This week, we did our novel studies presentation. We had some very good ones such as the one shown above. We also had some challenges because this was our first time doing the novel studies.

In social studies, we learned more about the Canadian election. We saw watched a video about the leaders debate and some parts were very funny and interesting.

 In Ancient Greece, we made up our own Greek
communities and wrote our names in Greek letters.

We finally got our fish tank up and running last week. We have a new classroom job and you have to feed the fish on the first day only.

Last week we did math and we had a contest who could answer page 20 in our books would get a bean and a point.

We also had the terry fox run on Tuesday in the afternoon. We gave out banana's as our healthy snacks after the run.

On Thursday we did reader's theater  where you have a script and you have to change your voice to the character. IT WAS AWESOME! with Ms. Funk

We also did our pop up fable booklets in Language Arts.

In Science we finished our bark rubbings and started our tree rings.

 This week in science we are learning about the bark and doing rubbing.
We measured our shadows.

 This week in social we are researching and learning about Sparta.

All new subjects :)

Our math books finally came in,and now we are not just rolling dice and writing down numbers.
In our books were doing T Tables,Patterns.  We've gotten  pretty far in our books(maybe not)

We are doing Trees & Forests,We are making posters with leaves that we found our selves.10 Different type of leaves,We are still making our title page.

Social 

In social we are learning about Ancient Greece,And the Election(That's why we need election news)

Fables are due on Monday

This is our third attempt at writing our blog hopefully next week will be easier. So far grade 6 is awesome .

Election, Math and More!

Last week we had many things going on, that it even stopped us from doing the blog. So last week, we had a short week since we had no school on Friday. So on Monday, we got new math pages. This time, they lead up to the end of the book. On Tuesday we worked on our campaign for the Election to become Prime Minister of the class. A lot of posters were printed and coloured. On Wednesday we had our final practise PAT. It was very hard, but most of us passed. The highest mark was 88%. On Wednesday June 15th we have our first real PAT. It will be on reading. To prepare for the upcoming tests, we are hard at work, doing Exam Bank practise PATs. Every time you click on one, it gives you randomly selected questions, among hundreds. We will be very prepared for the real PATs. Lastly we have Thursday. Thursday was very fun for most of us. We had the debate between the six candidates running to be Prime Minister. They are: Cash, Riak, Emma, Jaden T., Shahraaj and Jaden D. They all made strong points, and put up a huge fight against the other leaders, and even added a taste of comedy.

Last week was a very busy week so we did not have time to do the blog. Last week we had a field trip to the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. At the Bird Sanctuary we saw lots of birds and learned about the flight of birds. On Friday we had our Sports day (Play day). On Sports day we played with our kindergarden and grade 1 buddies. We went to different stations like Bowling, Chuck wagon race, volley ball and many more. At the end of the day we had our tug-a-war challenge against the teachers. We lost :( but we had a lot of fun! We had a Sports day assembly. Miss Magee is retiring we will miss her. We've been practicing for our P.A.Ts we hate them. We are starting our pop projects in music and in gym we are doing track and field.
